The Author is assuming the Wreath of Hair
is that of the Mother - Mary (Polly) Armstrong
 
           It was Tradition for people to put

            a Wreath made of Hair from the

                Mother in the Family Bible.
 
What a nice Tradition - perhaps still true today.
 
As stated previously, It is unknown why these
items were placed where they still remain.
This, of course, can not be confirmed.
Truly, Only God knows for sure.
